Myspace.com to Sell Music Online
Do you love downloading all the latest songs from the comfort of your own home? Now it will be even easier! MySpace.com, the largest social network in the world, has joined up with three of the four largest music labels in the world to offer its users a new online music store where billions of users can now buy and stream millions of songs.
The latest development in the MySpace network will make it the top competitor to Apple’s iTunes. MySpace feels that the new music platform, which will be called MySpace Music, was a natural extension of the networks musical heritage. This development will change the way that consumers access musical content in a big way, and both MySpace officials and MySpace users are excited about the development. It is hoped that creating this more dynamic link between the artists and consumers will ultimately lead to an increase in sales of music.
Those who already use MySpace will know that you can get to know your favorite artists a little more by visiting their MySpace profiles. Here they post up a personal interpretation of who they are and what they stand for and other users can read lyrics, see new information, find out the upcoming dates of concerts or even watch or listen to a few songs. Thus MySpace provides the ultimate connection between musicians and fans. Now fans will not only be able to listen to and communicate with their favorite musicians – they will be able to buy music, ring tones and concert tickets directly from the artist’s MySpace page.
So far the big names that have come on board are Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. There are talks that EMI might consider joining in soon. Up until now Apple’s iTunes has been the largest online music store, but the new MySpace Music platform will provide them with stiff competition. MySpace has approximately 110 million members. At least 30 million of these members visit the MySpace music platform, which features some 5 million artists profiles from around the globe.
Record industry leaders are viewing the MySpace deal as a way to get on top of the Apple monopoly in the online music industry and as a way to reach consumers and hopefully boost falling sales. Tapping into the online community is definitely a way into the future and often it is younger online customers who will be targeted. These individuals are often more likely to download music illegally. It is hoped that by offering this new and interactive alternative to illegally downloading music, these users will be less likely to behave in this industry-destructive behavior, because their experience on MySpace will be more expansive and enjoyable. Well, MySpace is definitely setting a new industry standard and we will hopefully see even more competitors on the market in the future.
